Internet-delivered CBT (I-CBT) is an alternative modality for the delivery of CBT for patients with anxiety and related disorders. I-CBT is a scalable alternative to in-person treatment, with the Internet used as an accessible and cost-effective method of delivery for evidence-based treatment. In I-CBT, CBT modules are delivered via computer or an application on a mobile device, with the support of a therapist or through a self-guided system. I-CBT has been shown (17–19) to be superior to waitlist and placebo conditions in the treatment of adults with a range of anxiety and trauma disorders, including anxiety and PTSD. Results (18) have indicated that I-CBT is similarly effective at reducing panic disorder symptoms as face-to-face CBT.

Yet there’s much more depth and nuance to this well-researched form of psychotherapy.

In CBT treatment, trained therapists help clients identify distressing thoughts and evaluate how realistic these thoughts are. As clients become aware of their thoughts and are able to evaluate them, they feel better. CBT therapists also work with clients on solving problems, learning new skills, and setting and achieving meaningful goals.
